Almost 42,000 disabled veterans meet the criteria to possess their federal education loan debt dismissed.
But no more than 18 % of those have actually gotten their loans dismissed, based on the Department of Education. And making issues more serious, around 25,000 disabled veterans have previously defaulted on the figuratively speaking.
Veterans who possess a complete and permanent service-connected impairment or receive impairment advantages in the 100-percent degree meet the criteria when it comes to loan forgiveness program, called Total and Permanent Disability Discharge, or TPD. This loan forgiveness may also affect federal student education loans that disabled veterans sign up for with regards to their young ones.
